Sandra Oh (born November 30, 1970 in Ottawa, Ontario) is a Canadian actress. She was born to Korean parents. Sandra Oh became interested in acting while attending Sir Robert Borden High School in Nepean, Ontario, where she took drama classes, acted in school plays, and was a member of the drama club. She was also a member of the student council in high school. After high school, she studied drama at university before going on to roles in Canadian films and films in the United States. She has appeared in mostly American movies and television. She has received various awards, including two Genie Awards. She is als known in Canada for her lead performances in the Canadian Movies Double Happiness, Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity, and Last Night for which she won the Best Actress Genie. Oh also won the FIPA d'Or at Cannes (Best Acress) for her role in The Diary of Evelyn Lau. Roger Ebert made special reference to Sandra's performance when reviewing the Blue Iguana on Ebert & Roeper and the Movies the weekend of October 20-21 saying: "...also, let's mention that Sandra Oh who goes out and does a striptease in front of the boy that she loves but doesn't think will accept her...there's a little tear that comes down while she's upside down on the pole and that's a very effective piece of acting." Sandra Oh was married to American filmmaker Alexander Payne, on January 1, 2003. On March 12, 2005, the couple's publicist said they were separating. Oh is fully bilingual (speaks both official languages of Canada -- English and French) Never straying far from her theatre roots, Oh has also starred in the world premieres of Jessica Hagedorn's Dogeaters at the La Jolla Playhouse and Diana Son's Stop Kiss at Joseph Papp's Public Theatre in New York.
